This week, three small Curious Jane programs opened – heralding, for us, the start of summer! The upcoming months will be absolutely full of projects, preparation, phone calls, supply runs, new ideas, energy, exhaustion, discoveries, amazing work, and many many girls. We look forward to it all – it’s camp!
Here are a few photos from our opening week at the Invisible Dog (Brooklyn) – a small group with with a variety of projects from our different themes…
Transforming the loft-like space with DIY floor cushions, life-size ‘superheros’ on banner paper and colorful paper lanterns.
Simple birdfeeders (in learning about how the shapes of bird beaks are adapted to the types of foods birds eat). The cups are painted with molasses and rolled in birdseed – it’s a great fun mess, even stickier than slime!
In their science sleuth walk – girls were armed with magnetic ‘wands’ and tested all the surfaces in the urban environment for magnetic properties. Back at the Invisible Dog, they compared notes: the most surprising non-magnetic object? A lamppost. The most surprising magnetic object? A wall (well, it had a sheet-metal covering).
Tiny sea creatures await baking before diving into their miniature aquariums.
