Our Shipley campers are on the verge of publishing their first poetry anthology! Here are a few poems, to give you a little preview:
Creature From the Deep
Under water, the ocean sounded eerie and quiet.
A submarine watched while floating silently.
From below we could see the slow and graceful movements of a gigantic dark creature.
It came closer and closer, but moved away again.
“Don’t be afraid!” I said, but it just waved its tentacles menacingly.
I got frightened and I wanted to run away but didn’t.
I was too intrigued to run away- I wanted to know more.
The more I knew, the longer I would live.
Desperate, I tried to distract the animal by questions.
Untitled I
The sun shines bright on this side of the city
The other side is dark and clammy
People also say it is mysterious
It entices them to wonder AND to worry, for how can something be so small yet so dangerous
Like the head of a pin being deadly
The poison oozed slowly, sealing his fate
His family was sad and gave up hope
They had lost a great heart and decided it was time to stop fighting for what was no longer theirs
For because it was no longer theirs they had no control over it.
Train
a chug & a chug the train goes, choo, choo goes its high pitched whistle, a loud noise he starts his engine, and drives away from his sorrows, hoping to find a better life.
It is difficult to be alone, hiding from the world. Full of sorrow, they make no noise but a squeak.
