Wired 101

This summer, our new Wired 101 is a bit electronics and a bit robotics. We're including some of our favorite projects from last year, like the circuit cards, LED rollies, bristle bugs, and draw-bots, and we're adding some new projects introduce slightly more complex circuits like designing quizzboards and experimenting with conductive paint.

Because there is so much to do in just one week, we will not be incorporating robotics programming but instead will be focusing on circuitry and wiring to make simple pieces that move, buzz, glow and ding. We use low voltage batteries, solder-less techniques, and safe wiring practices so that girls can really investigate what makes a circuit work without worrying about shocks or smoke. Our goal is for girls to be able to experiment easily with circuits and wiring so that they become comfortable creating surprising and successful projects on their own!

Our draw bots, pictured below, use an AA battery, small motor and eccentric weight. When turned on, they wobble around on their marker tripod legs creating really cool patterns and colorful designs.
