How To: Spherification

Spherification is a really cool kitchen science project! It utilizes molecular gastronomy to create a sheer membrane that holds liquids inside. Try it with water, juice, or any other drink. Some of the ingredients are used in the food industry and may seem unusual but you can easily find them online!

Maker Checklist:

  • small bowls or cups
  • 2 large bowls
  • measuring cup
  • measuring spoons
  • slotted spoon
  • immersion blender
  • sodium alginate (seaweed extract)
  • calcium lactate (powdered calcium)
  • juice or other drink
  • water
