Our counselor-in-training program is open to girls entering 7th–9th grades in Fall 2019. It is a great opportunity for girls to help younger students, learn from working with an all-female staff, and contribute and grow as part of a strong group. I love having the chance to work with tween and teen girls (I have two myself), and I'm delighted the CIT program has become such a strong part of the Curious Jane experience.

Very Sincerely, Samantha

Who Is Eligible + What’s Expected

  • The CIT program is open to rising 7th-9th graders, with Berkeley Carroll limited to rising 9th graders.

  • CITs have real responsibilities. We expect them to take the commitment seriously.

  • CITs commit to a two-week session. We have limited one-week sessions available as well.

  • We place one CIT per classroom. This CIT helps alongside the instructor and counselor.

  • CITs are at the program from 8:30am–3:45pm. They have responsibilities like greeting girls in the morning, helping girls with their projects in class, setting up snacks, etc, and being supportive and enthusiastic members of the group!

  • New CITs are invited to attend one day of training at our Gowanus workspace (dates listed below). They have fun and learn a lot!

CIT Program Fee

We are committed to offering our CITs a valuable experience and we also value their help in the classroom. Please note there is a nominal fee in support of this structured program.
NYC: $600 total for the two week commitment. $300 for the one week sessions, noted with an (*) above.

How to Apply

We are committed to making this a growing experience for the girls, from start to finish. The first step is for your daughter to send us a short essay about her interest in being a CIT. Once this has been accepted, we will send you a link to register her for the program.

  1. How to Apply -- To apply, your daughter should send all her information in the body of an email, following these three important steps:
    (i) Write a short, personable essay about why you would like to be a CIT and include any experience (in school or out) that would be good for us to know.
(ii) Include the location(s) and session(s) of your choice, in order of preference.
(iii) Copy a parent on your email, and send it to us at cit@curiousjanecamp.com

  2. Important Dates – Applications submitted between December 1 and January 15th will be considered in the first round of applications, and notified by February 1st. Applications submitted between January 16th and March 1st will be considered in the second round of applications, and notified by March 15th.

  3. What comes next? – We will review all applications submitted in each round, and, if we have a space for your daughter to join us, we will send an email invitation for you to register. Our CIT program has become overwhelmingly popular and we cannot accept all who are interested. We’re very sorry about this and wish that we could!

  4. How to Register -- Once we accept the email application, we will send you a link to register. Please do so within a week so that your spot is confirmed.

Thank you -- we are thrilled to be truly “powered by girls!”
