Our counselor-in-training program is open to girls entering 7th–9th grades in Fall 2018. It is a great opportunity for girls to help younger students, learn from working with an all-female staff, and contribute and grow as part of a strong group. I love having the chance to work with tween and teen girls (I have two myself), and I'm delighted the CIT program has become such a strong part of the Curious Jane experience. I hope your daughter will join us!

Very Sincerely, Samantha

Here’s What Your Daughter Will Gain

  • Guidance and responsibility while with working with young girls in a fun, supportive environment
  • Leadership training, prior to starting, with Samantha (our Founder)
  • Experience for future work and volunteer experience
  • Letter of reference (upon request) for applications to high school or other volunteer positions
  • A chance to engage with other girls her age in a collaborative environment

Who Is Eligible + What’s Expected

  • CITs have real responsibilities. The program works best when your daughter is eager to join us, and takes the commitment seriously.

  • For girls entering 7th–9th grades in the Fall of 2018.
Please note: We are only accepting rising 9th graders at our Berkeley Carroll location, due to an older camper group this summer.

  • Rising 10th graders may apply for a volunteer position and rising 11th–12th graders may apply as Junior Counselors.

  • We offer CIT programs in both Brooklyn and Manhattan (see below), and CITs commit to a two-week session. We have limited one-week sessions available as well.

  • We place one CIT per classroom, with our CJ Junior (6-7 year old) girls. This CIT helps alongside the instructor and counselor.

  • CITs are at the program from 8:30am–3:45pm. They have responsibilities like greeting girls in the morning, helping girls with their projects in class, setting up snacks, etc, and being supportive and enthusiastic members of the group!

  • New CITs are required to attend one day of training at our Gowanus workspace (dates listed below). They have fun and learn a lot!

How to Apply

We are committed to making this a growing experience for the girls, from start to finish. The first step is for your daughter to send us a short essay about her interest in being a CIT. Once this has been accepted, we will send you a link to register her for the program.

  1. Apply between December 1 and May 1 -- To apply, your daughter should send an email to us with a short, personable note about why she would like to be a CIT and any experience (in school or out) that would be good for us to know! She should also include the location and session of her choice. Applications will be considered first come, first served, and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Send this to Samantha at cit@curiousjanecamp.com, and please copy a parent on the email.
Spots fill quickly, apply early! Also, always feel free to inquire about availability.

  2. Register -- once the application has been received, and we confirm a spot for your daughter, we will send you a link to register.

Feel free to call us with any questions! Thank you -- we are thrilled to be truly “powered by girls!”
